Ghar Environmental Map

Description

This is an environmental map of Ghar, the focus of my new worldbuilding project. Roughly 88% of the surface is covered in water and the land is largely clustered into a single supercontinent, which is divided into six subcontinents. The interior of the continent is dominated by the Great Kagumba Desert, an aird, sandy wasteland around the size of Asia. This region is very sparsely populated and much of the deep interior is so dry and hot that even microbes cannot survive, so what few people do live there are found near the edges. Most of the population lives in the Ghabeta, a huge river basin larger than Brazil that holds some of the most fertile land on Ghar. Despite half the planet's population living in the Ghabeta the most densely populated region on Ghar is the Brasahati Coast of western Rashra where large, heavily urbanized states boast cities of 30-50 million. The climate of Ghar is much more warm and wet than Earth's, and Ghar's climate is dominated by cyclical dry and wet seasons fueled by tropical storms blowing in from the Great Ocean. The biochemistry of Earth and native Ghari life is incompatible, and in the two millennia since humans colonized Ghar large portions of the planet have become terraformed. Regions of heavy human settlement and activity tend to be dominated almost entirely by invasive Earth ecosystems, and the further you get from civilization then more Ghari the ecosystems become until almost no Earth life is present. Between these two extremes there are large areas where overlapping Earth and Ghari ecosystems compete for the same resources, keeping a delicate balance between the native organisms and the alien invaders. A similar situation has also occurred in the oceans where Earth life that has proven hardy in the more urbanized and industrialized region of Ghar has outcompeted Ghari life in the coastal shallows near cities.

really interesting ... i specially love how you differ so detailed between the different biome types  Thumbs Up

.. but why do some deserts directly touch the rainforests? (like north of ghabeta). :)
Are such rapid biome changes really possible?,..  i only saw that in minecraft seeds. :D
